Promoting Safe Driving for Teens

About the Project

Beginning this October on NBC, “Safe Teen Drive” brings viewers into an important conversation about teenage driving, responsibility, and road safety. The project explores what it really means for a young person to prepare for life behind the wheel in today’s fast-moving and distracted world.

Hospital trauma specialists will share real-life insight into car accidents, injuries, and the consequences that can follow one unsafe decision.

Youth psychologists will explore whether sixteen-year-olds are truly emotionally prepared for the responsibility of driving.

The series will also include parents sharing their honest concerns as their children prepare to drive on busy streets, major highways, and unfamiliar roads. Their voices help show that teen driving is not only a personal milestone, but also a family and community responsibility.

At the center of the program is a teenage host who began learning about driving at age fourteen in preparation for getting behind the wheel at sixteen. Through his perspective, the series will explore cars, speed, freedom, peer pressure, responsibility, and the choices young drivers face today.

We invite both parents and teenagers to follow this journey with us and take part in a conversation that can help build safer habits, stronger awareness, and a better future for young drivers.

Why This Project Matters

Every teenager dreams about freedom. For many young people, getting a driver’s license represents independence, excitement, and the beginning of adulthood. But behind that excitement is a growing reality that communities across America can no longer ignore. Traffic accidents involving teenage drivers continue to rise, and too many families experience tragedies that could have been prevented through education, awareness, and responsible driving habits.

Across the United States, motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of death for teenagers. According to national traffic safety studies, drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are significantly more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents than experienced adult drivers. Distracted driving, speeding, mobile phone use, peer pressure, fatigue, and lack of experience are some of the major reasons why young drivers face greater risks on the road.

Florida in particular has seen thousands of accidents involving teenage drivers every year. Busy highways, tourism traffic, nightlife culture, and constant distractions create dangerous conditions for inexperienced drivers. Behind every statistic is a real story — a teenager whose life changed forever, parents dealing with loss, or families struggling with injuries that affect them for years.

“Safe Teen Drive” was created to start honest conversations about these realities. This project is not designed to frighten young drivers, but to educate and empower them. Through interviews with police officers, trauma specialists, psychologists, transportation experts, lawyers, parents, and teenagers themselves, the series explores the real pressures and decisions young drivers face every day.

The goal of this initiative is to make road safety relatable for younger audiences in a modern and engaging way. By using television, social media, and digital storytelling, the project encourages teenagers to think differently about responsibility, speed, distracted driving, and the consequences of dangerous choices behind the wheel.

Safe driving is not only about following rules — it is about protecting lives, families, and futures. Every responsible decision made behind the wheel has the power to save a life. Through this project, we hope to inspire awareness, responsibility, and safer driving habits for the next generation.
